PROFILING IS REAL!!!
Profiling occurs when law enforcement agents rely on any degree of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or gender expression in selecting which individuals to investigate, arrest, or detain – except where these characteristics are part of a specific suspect description. Profiling violates constitutional and human rights and results in community members losing trust in police. Profiling makes everyone less safe.
YOUR RIGHTS : Did you know?
The Fourth Amendment mandates police officers gain consent if they want to search someone without probable cause. House Bill 1201 now requires police officers to inform you that you have the right to say “NO” to the officers’ request to perform a consensual search. The officers can only proceed to search if they obtain your written or verbal consent!
