Month of Love and Racial Justice
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hello Community,
In the first 20 days of 2012, the Racial Justice and Civil Rights Program was extraordinarily busy fighting for the rights of our members. We’re in awe of the support that we’ve received from members like you—You have proven that people are power.
We feel incredibly lucky to be part of a community that fights against racial profiling and stands firm in their demands to end police brutality. On behalf of the Colorado Progressive Coalition (CPC), we want to sincerely thank you for your fierce dedication to Racial Justice and Civil Rights.

This February, we are asking you to help us continue our fight for Racial Justice and Civil Rights. Help us celebrate Black History Month by making February the Month for Love and Racial Justice. Please support us by showing your LOVE to the Racial Justice and Civil Rights Program by donating $5-$100 today!!!
Here’s what we’ve accomplished from January 1 to January 20:
· Launched a Community-led volunteer committee to operate our statewide Racial Justice Hotline. We have trained over two dozen volunteers to take statewide calls from community members who have experienced racial profiling or police brutality. See Photos of the training here: http://tinyurl.com/85ff9k4
· Marched in the Martin Luther King Marade with our members to raise awareness about police brutality and about our Racial Justice Hotline. CPC member Alex Landau led us in an inspired march on the three year anniversary of his beating at the hands of three violent police officers. Check out our news coverage here: http://tinyurl.com/7yo4c5n
· Organized a Direct Action with over 100 CPC members in response to the reinstatement of violent police officers who attacked community members at the Denver Diner. We marched on three different city buildings and five city offices (Civil Service Commission, District Attorney, Police Chief, Manager of Safety, and the Mayor’s office) to deliver demands for police accountability and justice for those who have been assaulted. With your support and participation, we have only begun the fight for racial justice in our communities. In the coming months, we will launch Know Your Rights trainings statewide in Pueblo, Greeley, and Denver. These trainings will focus on how people can assert their constitutionally protected rights when interacting with law enforcement. We will also train people in the community to organize their own trainings. By providing the tools and skills for our community to organize their own responses to police violence, we hope to facilitate positive and inspired community responses based on love, compassion, and community. This organizing approach acknowledges that real power comes from our community, not from people who hold “important’ political or economic positions. Our goal is to build a critical mass of people in the community who know their rights, can assert their rights, and teach others how to do the same. PLEASE JOIN US in the fight for our communities.
This February, we need to raise $1,600 to launch our community based Know Your Rights trainings, and cover the cost of the telephone line for the Racial Profiling Hotline. Help us celebrate Black History Month the month for Love and Racial Justice by supporting this campaign.
Give the gift of LOVE by donating $5-$100. Any amount you can give can make all the difference!!! Stay tuned for how you can give us your input on love, compassion, and community-based responses to police violence in our communities.
