Denver Canvassers (Temporary Positions)
Position Title: Canvasser
Reports To: Community Organizer
Location: Denver (2 positions)
30 hours/week
Compensation: $15/hour
Temporary through March 31, 2012, with the potential for longer term
Must be able to start working on Monday, January 23, 2012

Position Summary:

The canvasser helps implement community organizing and civic engagement strategies to achieve CPC campaign and project goals for all its issue areas (racial justice, economic justice, health justice).

The major focus is on building a base of active members and member leaders to mobilize on CPC’s campaigns by engaging in leadership development with our membership and recruiting new members to join the organization.
Responsibilities:

Recruit community members and small business owners to join our organization through door-to-door canvassing and other in-person outreach in communities with particular focus on low-income neighborhoods, communities of color, immigrants, LGBTQ people, and youth.

Participate in phone banks in order to affirm membership, get people to take action, attend member meetings and other CPC related events.

Conduct regular outreach and recruitment activities at public events and community centers.

Identify potential leaders and assist in developing the leadership of grassroots members.

Participate in organizational efforts to build financial support for the organization through donations from individuals and small businesses.

Maintain administrative functions including data entry.

Additional outreach and recruitment responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must have excellent communication and people skills; must be comfortable speaking with strangers.

Commitment to social justice.

Must be able and willing to walk for long distances outside in a variety of weather elements.

Ability to recruit, inspire, and mobilize people to take action.

Ability to work with other staff and coalition partners in a team.

Attention to detail.

Intermediate computer skills including basic database management.

Ability to work effectively with a diversity of people and constituencies.

Ability to multi-task and work under deadlines.

Experience in door-to-door canvassing a plus.

Being Spanish bilingual is preferable.
Special Job Requirements:
-
The job requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.

The canvasser should preferably have access to a vehicle with valid Colorado Driver’s License, registration, and insurance that can reliably travel throughout Colorado, sometimes on short notice.

The job will require occasional travel across the state.
