Health Justice
More than 700,000 Coloradans, including 200,000 kids, have no health insurance. Many more of us are underinsured or worried about rising health care costs, and are struggling with health care access, affordability, and the mounting health care crisis.
LEADERSHIP ON COLORADO HEALTH CARE REFORM
Since 1999 CPC has led Colorado efforts to lower prescription drug costs and is active in efforts to win affordable health care, hold HMOs accountable, expand health care worker organizing, and end health care disparities that impact people of color, immigrants and low income people in our state. An affordable prescription drugs Executive Order was issued in 2007 following six years of leadership from CPC and coalition partners on the issue.
Since 2006, CPC has led a state coalition to address language as a barrier to quality health care. Most recently this year, CPC completed a report which spotlights issues of language access in clinics and hospitals, and captures best practices for inclusivity of non-English speakers.
FIXING OUR NATIONAL HEALTH CARE CRISIS
Currently, our central focus is working with our new administration to reform health care at the national level. CPC is an anchor group for federal health care reform with the Health Care for America Now campaign. Through this effort, we will secure a public insurance plan for low- and moderate-income Coloradoans, people with disabilities, and children. Federal legislation is being introduced right now, and we are leading the fight to ensure inclusion of immigrants and other marginalized communities.
